in Arts (YEA!) Awards
Application Information

The purpose of these awards is to support the development of young artists who are in the local community. Artists will be recognized for their individual accomplishments. All finalists will present their work before a judge (or judges) or will perform live auditions.

The Awards

We offer awards in each of the following categories:

bullet Creative Writing
This includes poetry and fictional or non-fictional stories.


bullet Visual Arts (Phyllis Wentworth Award for 1st Place)
This includes photography, fine or graphic arts and sculpture.

bullet Music (Renee Smith Award for 1st Place)
This includes vocal or instrumental performing and/or composition.

bullet Drama/Dance/Film
This includes acting, speech arts, dance, film or electronic arts.

Awards are $500 for 1st Place and $300 for 2nd Place. All prizes will be offered at the discretion of the judges.

topHow to Apply for a Youth Excellence in Arts (YEA!) Awards: Eligibility and Procedures

  1. Applicants must be Pleasanton residents, or attend school in Pleasanton, or take private lessons — in their art — from a teacher in Pleasanton, and must be between the ages of 14 and 20.

  2. Applicants must submit the appropriate application form and reference form with all required supporting documents and materials. The application and reference form must be typed or printed carefully in ink.

  3. PCAC reserves the right to disqualify any art work that has previously won another award.

  4. The applications must include:

    One recommendation on the recommendation form provided. The recommendation must be written by an expert in the relelvant art field, such as a teacher or known artist.

    Appropriate additional materials
    required on the application, depending on the category for which the applicant applies.

  5. The application, recommendation form and all required materials must be postmarked by March 31, 2008 and must be submitted to PCAC by U.S. Mail only. Send to:

The Granting of Awards

The judges will screen all applicants and notify finalists so that they may appear and perform at the live auditions or make presentations. Awards will be given at the discretion of the judges. Decisions of the judges are final.

Winners will be notified by mid-May, 2008. The Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council will honor awardees at its Awards Banquet on the evening of June 4, 2008. Winners will also be provided a complimentary dinner.
