Youth Excellence in Arts (YEA!) Award Application Information
The purpose of these awards is to support the development of young artists who are in the local community. Artists will be recognized for their individual accomplishments. All finalists will present their work before a judge (or judges) or will perform live auditions.
The Awards
We offer awards in each of the following categories:
Creative
Writing
This includes poetry and fictional or non-fictional stories.
Visual Arts (Phyllis
Wentworth Award for 1st Place) This includes photography,
fine or graphic arts and sculpture.
Music (Renee
Smith Award for 1st Place) This includes vocal
or instrumental performing and/or composition.
Jazz Music ((Rotary Club of Pleasanton Excellence in Music Award) ) This includes
jazz vocal
or instrumental performing and/or composition.
Drama/Dance/Film This includes acting,
speech arts, dance, film or electronic arts.
Awards are $500
for 1st Place and $300 for 2nd Place. All prizes
will be offered at the discretion of the judges.
How
to Apply for a Youth Excellence
in Arts (YEA!) Awards: Eligibility and Procedures
Applicants must be Pleasanton residents, or attend school in Pleasanton,
or take private lessons — in their art — from a teacher
in Pleasanton, and must be between the ages of 14 and 20.
Applicants must submit the appropriate application
form and reference form with all required supporting documents and
materials. The application and reference form must be typed or printed
carefully in ink.
PCAC reserves the right to disqualify any art
work that has previously won another award.
The application form, recommendation form and all required materials
must be completed in full and mailed by U.S. Mail only, postmarked
no later than Friday, April 30, 2010.

The judges will screen all applicants and notify finalists so that they
may appear and perform at the live auditions or make presentations. Auditions
will be on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 1 p.m. in the Lynnewood Methodist
Church, 4400 Black Ave., Pleasanton, CA.
Awards
will be given at the discretion of the judges. Decisions of the judges
are final. The Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council will honor awardees
at the Awards
Performance and Show on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 7 p.m
in the Lynnewood Methodist Church, 4400 Black Ave., Pleasanton, CA, followed
by a reception with food.
